First..what is Amapiano?
Amapiano (from Zulu word : piano) is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa in 2012. It is a mix of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths, airy layers, broad percussive bass lines, gospel-inspired keyboards and traditional percussion.
It is characterized by high-pitched piano melodies, Kwaito bass lines, low-tempo 90s South African house rhythms and percussion from another local house subgenre known as Bacardi.
In 2020, the genre has grown in popularity across the African continent and worldwide with a notable increase in digital streams and chart successes in countries far from its South African.
