Who is Wizkid ?

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, born July 16, 1993 in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter. He started recording music at the age of 11. He rose to fame in 2010 with the release of the song Holla at Your Boy followed by his first studio album, Superstar in 2011. His second studio album, Ayo, was released in September 2014 and was preceded by six singles.

He quickly became a Nigerian Afro-pop star. He also made a name for himself in fashion magazines through his clothing style and on social media, among urbanized youth.

Then he gained international notoriety in the following years, especially in 2016, through his collaboration with Drake on a track that became a global hit, One Dance, number one in 15 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. He seduces by an assumed and sophisticated Africanity, but also becomes known by collaborations with other artists, such as Drake but also Beyoncé.

Wizkid’s contributions to the Nigerian music scene have earned him several accolades. He is the recipient of two BET Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, one MTV Europe Music Award, four MTV Africa Music Awards, two SoundCity Prix MVP, three MOBO Awards, six Headies Awards, six Nigeria Entertainment Awards, two Ghana Music Awards, etc. In addition, he has been nominated five times at the MTV Europe Music Awards, three times at the American Music Awards, four times at the World Music Awards. He has received a Grammy Award. In addition, he received an ASCAP award for his contribution to the song of Drake One Dance
